Sodium Formate is solid, irregular-shaped granule, which means it stays put. No need to worry about it being blown away or displaced due to regular aircraft or traffic movement. Sodium Formate is easy to apply via mechanical spreader. Sodium Formate is more environmentally-friendly than Sodium Acetate[NaAc] due to lower BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) during normal degradation. Sodium Formate solid deicer can be used as a stand-alone application or pre-wetted with Potassium Acetate liquid deicer.
AMS 1431E approved solid deicer for deicing of runways, taxiways, aprons, walkways, gates, and other airside operational areas where anti-icing/deicing is required. Sodium Formate is effective to 0ºF and has a lower biological oxygen demand than solid Sodium Acetate deicers. The irregular shaped granular form of sodium Formate solid deicer is more effective at staying in place compared to the spherical shaped form of sodium acetate especially in areas prone to windy conditions. Pre-wetting is an option but is not necessary to gain the full benefit of Sodium Formate’s anti-icing/deicing capabilities.
